Explore the world with The Dean of Travel

Dean has been called the "Traveler of our Times," not because he travels, but for his commitment and skill to share these experiences that expand our appreciation of the world.

Dean has this remarkable ability of making the impossible seem possible, of making the world seem like a wonderful, exciting place to be instead of a place to be fearful of.

HERE'S WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ...

“Dean brought the world to life and challenged our students to reflect on their own struggles and to experience life with absolute authenticity.”
- Dan Bird Superintendent Burwell Public Schools, Burwell, NE

“Dean was like a breath of fresh air that came swooping in to help us all see more than we ever saw before.”
- Amy Tharp, Literacy Specialist Littleton Public Schools, Littleton, CO

“As the principal of a K-8 school it is hard to find a speaker that is able to connect with all students. Mr. Jacobs did just that! Dean has a magnificent way of weaving character education lessons into his presentation, and the students really respond to him.”
- Kelly Mabe Principal Courtney Elementary, Yadkinville, NC

“I have never seen someone work so well with such a wide variety of students. Our Kindergarten students were mesmerized while our 11th and 12 graders were equally impressed.”
- Dan Martin, Principal Howells Public School, Howells, NE

“Dean’s presentations are a wonderful extension to the classroom curriculum.”
- Neal Manegold, Teacher Ben Frankiln Elementary, Kirkland, WA

"A WRITING ADVENTURE WORKSHOP"

For those who wish to take the magic even further, Dean offers writing workshops called “A Writing Adventure” for elementary and middle school students.

This is an active workshop where students write and share their work with the class. It is a workshop for those who are hungry to write and have a desire to learn more. I share my experiences and techniques used for keeping a travel journal. Students are led through exercises that lead to writing good stories and have an opportunity to practice their own writing skills. I share 5 steps for writing good stories and the students have an opportunity to practice. Positive feedback and encouragement are immediate.

“Teachers have not seen students so excited to write. Dean lit a fire in our students through his assembly and workshops.”
- Deb March, Principal, Highland Elementary, Littleton, CO

“Your spirit and enthusiasm sparked our students’ writing and made a positive impact on their outlook on writing. We have never seen our students so ravenous to fill a page writing their creative thoughts.”
- Rohwer Elementary 2nd and 3rd grade teachers, Omaha, NE

A WORD FROM DEAN JACOBS

Dean Jacobs

The magic of travel, of discovering new and different cultures is brought to life in my book and program Wondrous Journey. But more importantly in a world that we are told to be afraid of, I found something different. The kindness of the ordinary people in the world was the rule, not the exception. Near the beginning of my first trip 9-11 occurred. Instead of stopping, I continued out of a realization that more than ever I needed to learn about the world. This is a story of an ordinary man who would stop at nothing to follow his dream and the magic that happens when one follows his heart.

This program is fresh, new and alive with a recent view of the world. A view that defies being boxed into a sound bite, but instead it stirs the imagination of possibilities and dreams that in turn creates a hope for a brighter future.

It is a program that includes examples of positive characteristics and cultural diversity, exposing students to many dignified ways to live life.

One of the greatest privileges I had on my journey was the opportunity to meet, play with and experience children around the world. Their kindness, innocence, and love have left an imprint on my heart, and their spirit is carried into each of my programs.

Much of this magic would have been lost, except for the fact that I wrote about it and captured it with photos. The discipline of writing about the journey as I traveled kept details from fading away into the mists of time. The photos keep moments of color and smiling faces to relive and rekindle experiences.
